Jallianwala Bagh massacre by the British in 1919

Who knows their Indian history?

Sunday the 13th of April 1919 in Amritsar, 20 000 people gathered to dicuss their future under the aggressive British Empire. The meeting was held in Jallianwala Bagh.  General Reginald Dyer, chief of the British army in Amritsar, commanded his troops to close off the exist to the bagh and to open fire on the gathering.  379 men women and children were massacred, and at least 1200 received serious injuries. The people could not escape the massacre – there was no way out and many choose to kill themselves by jumping into a well in the bagh than to be shot.

What is the relevance of this story to whats happening to the people of Gaza? Well I just read in Reuters that Egypt has closed off it’s borders for people trying to escape Gaza which is being pounded by Israeli air attacks.  Egyptian riot police fired in the air to try to drive back Palestinians who had managed to penetrate the border wall on the Egyptian border to Gaza.

Why don’t the Egyptians not just slaughter the Palestinians themselves? Are they not signing their death warrant by not allowing them refuge? I wonder if they were aware of Israels’ plans and even collaberating with this execution. By closing the borders they are doing the same as the British Empire did to the Sikhs in Jallianwala Bagh – cornering and slaughtering the Palestinians.
